E.K. Baker students (both present and former!) had a great time at Tennessee Wesleyan University for Youth Leadership Day. Students learned what campus life was like as they visited lectures, heard from college students, and ate a fantastic lunch in the dining hall! We are very proud of our students who represented our school and district today.

E.K. Baker would like to give a shout out to the McMinn County Education Foundation for funding our school's Compassion Closet. We are extremely grateful for their generosity and kindness towards the students in our community! The Compassion Closet is used to help with clothing emergencies/insecurities at our school.
MCEF, thank you for your long-lasting contribution to our students and our school. We appreciate you!

Welcome back from Fall Break! We hope everyone had a restful week. Here are some updates from the counseling program! Also, please remember to wear red on Monday as we celebrate Red Ribbon Week, which highlights the importance of living a healthy, drug-free lifestyle!

Congratulations to our October students, teacher, and staff member of the month! A student from each homeroom was chosen for displaying a positive attitude. Then two students were randomly drawn to represent PreK-3rd grade and 4th-8th grade as the overall students of the month. Our teacher and staff member of the month were nominated by their colleagues for simply being outstanding and going above and beyond for our school. ***Not in the Picture: Madisyn King***

Sometimes the best way to encourage someone is by reminding them of simple truths. EKB's "Take What You Need" board is one way our students not only find encouragement but also learn to pass on the positivity to others.
Students, you are loved!

We rounded out College/Career Week last Friday with Pajama Day! Last week, students at EKB were able to "celebrate the future" as they connected their talents, abilities, and hobbies with career exploration. Our school definitely felt a sense of community as we all took part in dreaming and planning for the future. We at EKB are proud of our students and truly believe they have the potential to reach their goals through hard work, determination, and dedication!

We celebrated Day 4 of College and Career Week with our favorite college gear! Middle school students competed in a College/Career Jeopardy Game, and Upper Elementary students read "Oh, The Places You'll Go!" and completed a worksheet that helped them create and explore ideas for the future.

Professional Dress Wednesday and 8th Grade Career Day were HUGE successes! We want to give a very special thank you to those who volunteered their time to our 8th graders at the National Guard Armory; we appreciate the effort and encouragement you brought to our students!

On Tuesday, we celebrated students' futures "being so bright!" and had a blast wearing neon clothing/sunglasses.

Day 1 of College/Career Week was a huge success! All EKB students were invited to celebrate yesterday's "hats off" to college/careers by wearing their favorite hat. Upper Elementary students read "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" and came up with ideas for their future. Lower Elementary students read "The Smart Cookie" and completed a worksheet displaying what they are "smart" at. Overall, each student learned that they each have unique skills and abilities that they can utilize to have a fulfilling, successful future!

Here are some updates from the school counseling program! We are looking forward to a great month of learning how to stand up against bullying and celebrating college/career exploration through classroom guidance lessons and school-wide activities!

Congratulations to Mrs. Barber's Class and Mr. Privett's Homeroom for having the best attendance rates for the month of August! Each class was rewarded with a certificate and a special donut breakfast. Attendance contests at E.K. Baker will continue throughout the year!
