E.K. Baker School conducted a school-wide lock down drill this morning. There was no imminent threat at E.K. Baker School. We are required to conduct multiple drills throughout the year. We are simply conducting our required drills to prep our students and staff in the event of an emergency.
Yellow Jackets of the Month! Congratulations to our September students, teacher, and staff member of the month! A student from each homeroom was chosen for being justly. Then two students were randomly drawn to represent PreK-3rd grade and 4th-8th grade as the overall students of the month. Our teacher and staff member of the month were nominated by their colleagues for simply being outstanding and going above and beyond for our school.
School Counseling Newsletter for September!
We are excited to be hosting a "Career on Wheels Event" this year! Several local businesses and companies will be joining our school to educate all Pre-K-8th grade students on career exploration. We look forward to seeing all of our guests at EKB!
Our "Word" attendance contest has begun! Classrooms will compete against one another for best attendance rates. Classes will work towards daily perfect attendance to earn letters and prizes!
September Calendar of Events
On Friday, our faculty and staff received a treat from Ms. Stewart's students. The students delivered a snack to every member of our faculty and staff with a smile and cheerful greeting. It was a wonderful surprise! Thank you Mrs. Stewart, Ms. Pam, Ms. Tabitha, and Ms. Terri for everything you do everyday for our students!
Join us Tuesday, August 27th starting at 5:00pm for an evening of information regarding our school, select grade levels, and a chance to shop the book fair with your child. Free popcorn will be provided to all who attend.
A big thank you to our afternoon parking lot crew! Our parking lot has been tough to navigate with the construction taking place, but this crew has worked hard to make it successful. The safety of our students is always one of our top priorities. This group represents one of the great qualities of EKB, and that is striving to create the best environment for our students, parents, and community. Go Yellow Jackets!
E.K. Baker Families and Community,
During the next few months, E.K. Baker’s front entrance will be undergoing a much needed change. An awning will be built in front of the school to assist in loading and unloading students. This awning will prove extremely beneficial during arrival and dismissal. Construction will start on the awning during the month of August and it will take a few months to complete. I understand the inconvenience of the timing and hurdles that the project may cause. However, I believe, once everything is completed, we will all be extremely happy with the result. As you can see in the picture below, we will be reversing the flow of traffic in our parking lot. As you enter the parking lot there will be one lane of traffic until you are past the construction zone. Once you are past the construction zone, the parking lot will open back up to two lanes. Please, be patient and understanding as we will be doing our very best to make this process as seamless as possible. I have listed a few changes that will be taking place, and a visual to help guide us through this process.
There will be a fence up in the YELLOW construction zone pictured below.
One lane of traffic will be available entering the parking lot.
Two lanes will open up past the construction zone.
Student Drop-Off will be at the BLACK GATES at the gym.
Student Pick-Up will be at the DOUBLE GATES at the end of the parking lot.
During Pick-Up, buses must be first in the bus lane.
We will still have parking lot attendants in our parking lot like always.
The only parking that will be available during the school day will be along gym.
If you need to pick-up or drop-off a student at another time other than arrival and dismissal, then you will need to call the front office at (423)745-2760.
Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding!
Join us for Open House and meet your child's teacher on Thursday, August 1st.
There is still time to register for this year's Learning Loss Bridge Camp!
This year's "Marching into Spring Attendance" contest has come to a close! Our overall winner (whose class spelled all the words!) is Mrs. Wiseman's homeroom, who celebrated with an ice cream and donut party. Second place is shared by Mrs. Hooper and Mr. Privett's homeroom, who celebrated with an ice cream party! We also celebrated other students who were recognized for perfect attendance as well as students whose high attendance put them into a drawing for a prize! EKB is proud of our students and their dedication to attending school each day.
4th and 5th grade field day was full of fierce competition and fun! Mrs. Wiseman's 5th grade homeroom was declared the winner of this year's field day. We had a great week of field days, and we look forward to an even better week next year!
2nd and 3rd grade field day was a huge hit! These kiddos had a blast, and we loved watching them compete and have fun! Our overall winner with over 70 points was Mrs. Beaty's 3rd grade class!
We are gearing up for our graduations and awards ceremonies here at EKB!
K-1st Grade Field Day was a BLAST! Everyone showed up ready to compete and have fun! Our overall winner was Mrs. Dake's first grade homeroom. Way to go, K-1st grade students!!!
We had a great first day of field day! Our middle schoolers showed up for a fierce and spirit-filled competition. Though it was a close race, Mr. Privett's class won with 41 points!
Our middle school had a FANTASTIC day at Main Event last week! We played almost every game in the building and had a great pizza lunch. It was awesome to have such a great group all together!
